I did the lower case characters for Fidelma some years ago, but couldn't figure out what to do with the upper case—I hated everything I came up with. So I put it away. A recent project required something vaguely Celtic, but still a bit modern, and I thought of this unfinished typeface. I used it. It worked. And this time, I knew what to do about the upper case. Fidelma is drawn entirely with straight lines, no curves, giving it a rough but still readable look. As for the name, I recently read a series of mysteries, by Peter Tremayne, set in mid-seventh century Ireland. The main character's name is Fidelma. I liked the series; I liked the character; I like the typeface; and there you go.
