Geographica

GeographicaGeographica is a legible, four-style serif family modeled after the neat hand-lettered place names and peripheral text on the maps of Thomas Jefferys (ca. 1710–1771), the best-known cartographer in 18th-century England. Jefferys won (and hyped) the title “Geographer to King George III.” but was more an engraver/publisher than a geographer, mostly relying on the materials of others; still, his maps of the North American colonies were well known. Geographica combines a sort of hand-drawn warmth with a distinctly historical flair. Its long serifs and ample x-height will add classic elegance to long blocks of text or display type, whether on paper or screen. OpenType features include small capitals and two stylistic sets of titling caps. Comes also with a slew of unique cartographic ornaments, and offers full support for Central and Eastern European languages—more than 1,200 glyphs in all. US$99.

KIND WORDS:

“Well done on preserving the old ways of writing—they wrote and spoke so much nicer than we do now.”

—C.B., Bethesda MD

“The fonts you offer are quite unique and beautifully done.... Your site and ecommerce process was also a pleasure to view and to use.”
—R.M., Newbury NH

Bonsai is very beautiful; the font's antiquity seems to conjure a sweet staleness of old newsprint, somehow.”
—A.T., Ontario, Canada

“I've never seen anyone digitize old quill-pen handwriting [like Schooner Script], warts and all. You've done a fine job.”
—R.W., Costa Mesa CA

“Thanks so much for the great service and wonderful typefaces!”
—S.F., Evanston IL

“There's a fair number of what I call 'scrawl' faces out there. [Treefrog] is one of the very few I really like.”
